Azell Macon Obituary

It is with profound sorrow, We the Owners, Management and Staff at Gatlin Mortuary Inc stand along side the Macon family as we announce the earthly transition of Mr. Azell J. Macon,  who passed into eternal rest on Sunday  August 30, at the Langdale Hospice House.

Azell J. Macon, Jr. “Buddy” was born on November 11, 1948, in Donaldsonville, Georgia, to the union of the late Azell James Macon, Sr., and Ira Nell Harris. On August 30, 2020, he died peacefully at the Hospice House in Valdosta, Georgia Azell attended local schools including Gibbs High School, and later in life earning his GED. He worked in several job roles throughout his life, but he was most proud of having served four years as a Combat Engineer in the Marine Corps and fighting in the Vietnam War. He was Honorably Discharged in 1970 after receiving several decorations, medals, and awards, including the Good Conduct Medal in 1967. Azell lived his life to the fullest through simple pleasures: traveling across the world, spending time with his children and grandchildren, chatting with friends and strangers, and taking his dogs with him everywhere he went. He will be fondly remembered as a dedicated son, loving father, devoted Muslim brother, and a loyal friend who touched so many with his generosity and passion for life. He was preceded in death by his father, Azell Macon, Sr., sister, Mary Macon Scott Butler, and brother, James Macon. Azell leaves to cherish his precious memories: his mother, Ira Nell Harris; children, Aaron Macon, Brendell Macon (Dwayne) Achelles, Ashlee Macon (Antonio) Haynes, and Courtnee Macon; grandchildren, Ashlee’s children, Antonio Jr., Andrew, Auston, and Aubree, and Courtnee’s child, Desmond; siblings, Kathlean Smith (Willie Sr.) McClain of Malone, FL, Roy (Desiree) Macon of St. Petersburg, FL, Ervin Harris of St. Petersburg, FL, and Vivian Harris Clarke of St. Petersburg, FL; loving sister-in-law, Patricia Macon; and he also leaves a host of aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews, and many sorrowing friends.

Mr. Azell Macon, 71 who passed into eternal rest on August 30, 2020. Public visitation will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2020 from 12-2 p.m. in the Smith Chapel in St. Petersburg Fl. final rites have been entrusted to Gatlin Mortuary Inc.
