Dorothy Harris Obituary

When the time has come for me to go away from the troubles of this world, family it would never be goodbye. For I have left my heart with you, so don't you cry too much or too long. The love that's deep within me, shall reach each of you from the stars, you'll feel it from the heavens, and it will heal the wounds of a broken heart.

It is with profound sorrow, that we the Owners, Management and Staff at Gatlin Mortuary, Inc. stand alongside the Harris Family, to announce the earthly transition of their precious Dorothy.

It was on Thursday, June 25, 1953, that God himself made it possible and dispatched an angel in human form, that angel is now known as Dorothy Mae Harris, to the late Jake and Lessie Bell Middleton. Thereafter, 69 years later, that same God looked around his garden and found an empty place. He then saw the tired face of precious Dorothy. That same God then, put His arms around her, for God's garden must be a beautiful place, for he only takes the best. He saw the road was getting rough, So He closed those loving but weary eyelids on Friday, March 31, 2023. But you did not go alone…The day God called you home, for a part of your family went along with you.

Dorothy attended school in the public school system of Clinch County, Georgia, the Job Corps in Astoria, Oregon, and was employed at Valdosta State College for several years. Dorothy was married to the late June Clayton Harris, Sr., who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and one sister.

Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory: her two sons, June Harris of Kyoto, Japan, and Crage Harris of Homerville, GA; daughter, Belinda Harris of Warner Robins, GA; three sisters, Joyce Campbell of Valdosta, GA, and Shirley Edwards and Katrina Monroe, both of Homerville, GA; seven brothers, Earl Middleton of New Haven, CT, Charlie Milton, Johnnie Middleton (Lawanna), Don Middleton of Valdosta, GA, Jake Middleton of McCrae, GA, Lawrence Middleton (Tracie) of Warner Robins, GA, and Danny Middleton of Macon, GA; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.

God made a beauteous garden with lovely flowers strown, but one straight, narrow pathway That was not overgrown. And to this beauteous garden He brought mankind to live, and said "To you, my children, these lovely flowers I give. Prune ye my vines and fig trees, with care my flowers tend, but keep the pathway open Your home is at the end.
