Mr. Gregory Thompson, the seventh out of thirteen children, was born on May 3, 1958, in Valdosta, Georgia, to the late Wallace and Carrie Thompson. Greg attended Valdosta City School. He had a special love for football and track. He was a running back for Valdosta High Wildcats. His favorite NFL team was the Atlanta Falcons, and he loved gardening. Greg’s nickname in school was “Beaver.” Greg was employed with Suntrust Bank and Emory Hospital until he retired. During his retirement years, he often drove through the community on his Mercedes bike. He had an unforgettable laugh and smile. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Greg will truly be missed and will remain forever in the hearts of his family and friends. He was preceded in death by: his parents, Wallace and Carrie Thompson; brother, Henry Wallace Thompson; and sister and nephew, Barbara and Renard Savage. Greg leaves to cherish his loving memories: his daughters, Simone (Roosevelt) Robertson and Erica Thompson, both of Valdosta, GA; his loving siblings, Jacqueline Carter of Lake Park, GA, Deborah Telfort of Miami, FL, Farrell Thompson of Valdosta, GA, Jerline Thompson of Decatur, GA, Shelia (John) Orr of Cecil, GA, Terrice Thompson of Valdosta, GA, Gerald (Rhonda) Bailey of Valdosta, GA, Myra Randolph of August, GA, Derrick Thompson of Valdosta, GA, and Kim Thompson of Covington, GA; five grandchildren, Jalisa Robertson, Shania Robertson, Jaliyah Jones, Roosevelt (Trey) Robertson, and Chelsea Selmon; and a host of caring nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends, and his “little chocolate milk,” Kinley Blair.
Graveside service will be held on Sunday, August 29, 2021 at Sunset Hill Cemetery at 2 p.m. Pastor Jay Williams will officiate. Public Viewing will be held on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at Gatlin Mortuary form 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
