Harvey Lamar “Iceberg Slim” Freeman was born October 21, 1950, to the late Ruby Lee Freeman of Valdosta, Georgia, and the late Harvey Lewis of Detroit, Michigan. Lamar graduated in 1968 from Pinevale High School. Early in life, he joined Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church. He worked at Levi Strauss, WGOV-G95, Fifth End, and the Amvets, which made him well-known by many in the community. Lamar was preceded in death by his brother, James Inman, mother, Ruby Lee Freeman, and his grandparents. Lamar departed this life on Thursday, July 9, 2020 at South Georgia Medical Center. Lamar leaves to mourn and cherish his memories, his loving wife of 50 years, Mrs. Ernestine Gary Freeman; his children, Harvey A. Freeman, Shonda Freeman, Bernard (Kim) Matchett, Pinky (Eldridge) Eady and Eric Arnold; sisters, Mildred (Willie) McGee, Margaret Freeman and Ruby Arnold; Mother-in-law, Maple J. Gary; three brothers-inlaw, Timothy Gary, Willie (Katrina) Gary and Arthur Gary; two sisters-in-laws, Maephene (Eddie) Ashley and Marietta (Johnnie) White; a loving godchild, Nakia (Travis) Robinson; two special close friends, Jamie Brooks and Steffon Barron; and a host of loving grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2020 @ 11 a.m. in the Pallbearers Cemetery. Public Visitation will be held on Friday from 12 noon-6 p.m.
