You loved the game, with all your heart, you chased and ran the ball with might, you ran and caught passes and you scored, With skill and speed and fight. You loved the roaring of the crowd, The rush of victory, you loved the sweat, the tears, the toil, The adrenaline, so sweet. You ran with grace and strength all game, your footwork swift and sure, scored with ease and utmost grace, brought joy to all who saw. You played the game with all your soul, giving everything to win, you pushed yourself to the brink and back. Time and time again. So, here’s to you, from all your fans, A legend of the game. It is with profound sorrow, that the Owners, Management and Staff at Gatlin Mortuary, Inc. stand alongside the Porter Family to announce the transition of their beloved:

Mr. John Timothy Porter, born February 06, 1966, ~ and called from labor to rest on April 9, 2024. John was the 1984 USA Today national Defensive Player of the Year for the national champion Wildcats. The former linebacker, who went on to play for Georgia Tech, kept his speech short, but made sure to express his joy at playing for the Wildcats. “Never, never, never quit.”

During these most difficult hours family and good friends are truly a blessing. We thank God for the precious out pour of love, from extended family and friendship. We thank each of you for reminding us that the unchangeable love of God is a fountain of strength and serenity: May God richly bless each of you as He continues to sustain us is our prayer, The Porter Family.

Celebration of Life Services will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church @ 11:00 a.m. Internment will be held in the Riverview Memorial Garden Cemetery.  Public Visitation will be held on Friday April 12, 2024 at Gatlin Mortuary from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.
