Pauline Gatlin Powell

May 20, 1930 ~ January 31, 2022 (age 91)

May we so live to enjoy that day when the Lord may say to us, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.” (Matt. 25:21.)

It is with sincere sympathy that Gatlin Mortuary Inc. announces the passing of Mother Pauline Gatlin Powell. We are honored to be selected by her family to serve them with excellence through professional service.   ~Modern Day Services with Traditional Values~

Pauline Gatlin Powell (Aunt Polly) was born May 20, 1930, to the late Lillie and James Gatlin in Apalachicola, FL. She grew up and attended school in Franklin County, FL. Pauline was the last living of 13 children. She had twelve siblings— four brothers and eight sisters. On May 18, 1948, at the tender age of 18, she married the love of her life. In Apalachicola, she birthed three sons and after relocating to Miami, FL, she birthed two additional sons. Some years later, they moved to Orlando, Florida, permanently. After earning her dietary certification, Pauline worked tirelessly for many years until retirement from Princeton Hospital (formerly Mercy) on December 21, 1995. Pauline was a true woman of faith. On February 6, 1990, she began attending Pine Hills Community Church, where she remained a faithful and dedicated member. She devoted her time in the ministries of the Adult Usher Board, Sisterhood, Wings of Faith, Hospitality, and the Sacrament Committee. Pauline was the Matriarch of her family. She really loved her family and expressed it every moment she could. She would always let her voice be heard at family gatherings by telling stories and had no problem telling you to “get real with yourself,” if you were getting out of line. She will always be remembered for being genuine and having a smile and laugh that would light up a room. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lillie and James Gatlin; her twelve siblings; and three sons, Dewey Powell, Jr. (Terry), Willie Powell (Edith), and Alonzo Powell, Sr. (Jackie). She is survived by her remaining two sons, Jimmie Powell (Claudia) and Anthony Powell, Sr. (Bobbie); 26 grandchildren, 61 great-grandchildren, 23 great-greatgrandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
