William Henry Wright

It is with sincere sympathy that Gatlin Mortuary Inc. announces the passing of Mr. William Henry Wright.  We are honored to be selected by his family to serve them with excellence through professional service.  

William Henry Wright was born on January 9, 1932, to Lace and Alberta Wright in Lowndes County. He was the second youngest of eight children. He attended Mt. Zion School for all of his formal educational years. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. William married Sylvia Bowman on October 12, 1957. To their union five children were born.After serving many years in the U.S. Army, he developed a love and passion for construction where he had his own business. He was also very involved in the community where he was a member of the American Legion and Amvets Post 607. William was a life-long member of New Mt. Zion Church.

William departed this life on Sunday, May 16, 2021. He was 89 years old. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lace and Alberta Wright, daughter, Veverla Wright-Mcneil, grandson, Waltez Williams, and siblings: Joseph Wright Sr., Frances Wade, Lillie Mae Woods, Otis Wright, Rosa Lee Wright Williams, and Johnnie Mae Budd

William Henry Wright leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Sylvia Wright; children: Dorothy McKinnon, Jacquelyn (Joe) Austin, Janida (Andre’) Yancy, Cynthia Wright, William (Cathy) Wright Sr., Valerie (Melvin) Jackson; grandchildren: Talida Wright Akers, Travis Austin, Jonathan Austin, Andre’ Yancy Jr., Cierra Jones, Morton Woods II, William Wright Jr., Alexis Wright, Amber Parham, Cameron M. Wright, Kyle Jackson, Aaliyah Austin, Cimino McLowry, Jammie McLowry Sr., and Lakeyra Williams; 16 great-grandchildren and brother, Lewis (Louise) Wright. 

Graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 22, 2021 at Riverview Memorial Gardens at 11 a.m. Minister  Cherry Wright Roberts will officiate. Public visitation will be held on Friday, May 21, 2021 from 12noon to 8 p.m. at Gatlin Mortuary.
